Silenced

Ceramic (black clay), iron square nails, found objects, antique pearls.

While creating this small sculpture, I had in mind the oppression faced by women, particularly in light of recent events in Afghanistan. It is profoundly difficult to imagine the daily life of women living under such restrictions. The hand over the mouth is firmly affixed with formidable, rusted nails, symbolizing the enduring and powerful forces that deny liberty, rights, and freedom. The presence of antique pearls alludes to a better time, a time of hope and possibilities
